Title for Group C: Re-Imagining through Sci-Fi Toys

Short description for Group C:

A Sci-Fi toy reflects the culture of the time that were created, such as ideas on science, technology and business. In this workshop, we will try to understand the context of Sci-Fi toys made in the past, and reimagining in a contemporary context using contemporary technology and create a new play. First, participants will introduce the toys they brought (e.g. found at home or a local store) to each other including background story (if found on the Internet etc.). Next, participants will learn Machine Learning and IoT with toolkits (i.e. TensorFlow.js, ml5.js and micro:bit) through hands-on workshops. Finally, we’ll re-imagining (re-purposing, re-pairing, re-constructing) through idea sketching and make.

What participants should bring:

  • A macOS (Yosemite: 10.10 or later, High Sierra: 10.13 recommended) or Windows (8.1 or later, 10 recommended) PC with the Chrome web browser installed
  • A junk sci-fi toy
